You may or may not be aware that OFCOM, the government body responsible for the broadcasting airwaves of the UK, have announced that they will be changing the channel currently used for wireless microphones (Channel 69).

This change is occurring for the following reasons -
- To bring us in-line with the frequency bands used in the rest of Europe.
- To enable the current channel to provide more space for mobile broadband.

This will be happening in 2012, most likely just after the Olympic games.

Anyone using a wireless microphone system will be affected, both those who pay for a licence and those who use the free/public frequencies.

Your current wireless microphones will cease to work once the switchover has taken place.

There is currently no method of changing, adapting or re-tuning your microphones for use on the new channel. Wireless microphone systems are not “user” adjustable. It is cost prohibitive as most of the electronics in the microphone and receiver are affected. Some manufacturers, however, do offer this service but are charging typically £500 per microphone, effectively making many current systems redundant due to costs.

Service Sound want to help you with the change over.

- We can supply and install new microphones for you. The new microphones can be purchased now, as the new channel is already open and working.
- We can supply direct replacements for your current make and model, or suggest alternatives.

If you currently have a service contract with us, you will not incur a fee for our time or services. You will only be invoiced for the cost of the new microphones.

Please call or email us as soon as possible to discuss the changeover and we can answer your questions and keep your system working order.

If you do not have a service contract with us, we can still help. We can appraise your current system and give you a quote for replacing and installing new microphones.

It may be beneficial and more cost affective for you to consider a service contract with Service Sound – this would incorporate the wireless microphone changeover (installation costs only).

Please do not hesitate to contact us for further information regarding this change or for details of our service contract.
