Service Sound – Case study – Large   installation

Bedford Girls School-

Large installation over 4 separate spaces.

This prestigious school required new sound systems in 4 spaces as part of a summer refurbishment programme. Included also were new lighting systems and acoustic works.

We designed a hardware solution that could be, for the most part, duplicated in all 4 rooms. Thus giving a uniformity of equipment. This proves useful for changing staff.

Central to the control equipment is a flexible digital mixer.  This can be controlled by either the attached  touch-screen monitor. Or, remotely using any browser enabled portable device, e.g. iPads, laptops etc. This allows users to not be constrained physically by only sitting in the control area. Teachers can then be with their pupils and still retain full control over the system. The flexible mixer also allows us to store room ‘presets’ as starting points for teachers with various set-ups. In addition, media playback is provided by CD, USB and Bluetooth plus a hard line to their static p.c’s.

Each room has a mixture of Trantec and Sennheiser radio mics with booster aerials as required.

Our standard installation add-on’s include lockable drawers for microphones and documentation plus easy identification of cabling and panels. Full training comes as standard with all our installations.

Area specific works:

In the Main hall, in addition to the control rack, we installed JBL Front-Of-House, stage-mounted, full-range speakers. These are complimented with subs underneath the stage. Front-fills were embedded into the stage frontage for centre fill. The rear of the hall was covered with a spot-pair of passive speakers above and below the gallery. In addition, we installed active monitors from the over-stage lighting bar for artist foldback/monitoring.

The Drama room included 6, flown, active JBL speakers to allow for different orientation setups in the room.  This was managed by providing different ‘start-ups’ on the mixer. Floor level subs complimented the audio setup.

We supplied the Junior hall with a new active JBL FOH main pair with spot fills for above and below the rear balcony area.

In addition, the Dance class and external foyer area sported a wall mounted rack for the control equipment. We complimented this with passive JBL speakers in each space.
